For many, cooking is a family affair. It’s a time to make something with the people closest to you and to connect with your family’s history by drawing from traditional recipes. For April Wiens and her mom, Georgia, a family love of cooking has turned into a blossoming business – one that uses recipes Georgia learned when growing up.
April and Georgia first started Vasili’s as a food truck, which has become popular around the city for its authentic and delicious Greek food. But April felt they needed a more permanent location so she decided to open a Vasili’s stall at Symons Valley Ranch, often referred to as “The Market.” For April, the stall is a chance to expand on the truck’s concept. “We wanted to offer our food year-round, which is difficult to do in a truck in Calgary, so it’s a chance for us to do that,” she explains. “We’ve taken our business to the next level. It gives us the opportunity to expand our menu.”
