I would like to love this place, but it's not good value for money. Food isn't flavourful, portions are small.
That said, service is good, and the settings, on the floor of the church or in the Belfry, are beautiful.Read more
I highly recommend Rene's for anyone who enjoys fine dining but doesn't want to experience "sticker shock" when the cheque arrives.
While I enjoy fine food, I don't tend to enjoy "upscale" restaurants. The staff are usually haughty, the portions wouldn't satisfy a hummingbird, and I'm supposed to be impressed just because they artistically drizzled some raspberry sauce along the side of the plate.
Rene's Bistro was a very pleasant surprise! While the menu choices were creative and the food delicious, the atmosphere was bustling and friendly. If felt more like a neighborhood cafe, and there were obviously both a lot of locals and tourists there.
Best of all: no sticker shock.Read more

The menu is not extensive and there was no overall 'theme' but the food we had was pretty good. They recommended a great wine and the waitress was excellent - both friendly and helpful.
We booked at the last minute and were glad we did. Not a fine dining experience if that is what you want but a comfortable experience. We split a salad and the entree portions were a good size. My husband had a Thai noodle type dish and he really enjoyed it. I had the prime rib which came as I requested. We didn't have dessert but marvelled at a couple of plates that went by.Read more
I went to this location for the first time today and it was wonderful—I was met at the door by Dan who seated myself and then my cousin who shares my first name. We all had fun with that fact. Food was very good and our server was wonderful and didn’t rush us at all. We definitely will be back even just to say hello to Dan again. Wonderful experienceRead more

Kismet is my go-to place for Indian/Bangladeshi food in Waterloo. I usually get take out because the space is pretty small, and I've never had a problem with the people at the cash. My partner is not a fan of cilantro and they've never given as a problem when we ask for items without.
Their naan is the best I've had in Waterloo (Grain of Salt in Cambridge is the only place I've tried with better naan). Much better than the sort of pancakey stuff I've seen at other places *cough*Curry in a Hurry.
I really like their aloo gobi, which is potato and caulifower with curry spices. Their chicken korma is also delicious.Read more
