we went for a friend's birthday dinner. her and her bf love the place. they talk about it all the time. i have heard mixed reviews about the place. going online and checking out menu didn't look too appealing to me. regular food with a high price and over stuffed with "expensive" words for simple ingredients i had a glass of the Chardonnay from usa. excellent should have order 1.2 liter. i shared the sicilian mussel except made not spicy (don't like spicy food). the broth has aromatic and delightful. nice tomatoes, olives and onion broth. mussels were plump and tasty. the table bread was amazing. i usually steer away from bread because it is dry and garbage. but this was warm, soft and fluffy in the middle with a slight chew and crispy on outside. i ordered the shrimp and scallop carciofi (fettucine) made without cream and with tomato instead. the pasta was cooked perfectly, scallops a bit fishy, shrimps were poached perfectly. a bit too much tomato but im a bigger fan of cooked pasta perfect el dente. people sitting around me ordered veggie gnocchi (she loved it), short rib gnocchi (he wolfed it down and wanted more), prosciutto fuselli (she said pasta was amazing too slow portion and prosciutto tasted like bacon, pork chop dinner (thought it was amazing), smoked chicken el la vodka (he said was ok). food was good better than i expected. a bit over priced but it was a friend's birthday. Went here for lunch but will not be back. I must say the food here is very good. Unfortunately the Service Manager or Waiter is very pushy and will invite himself into your conversations. He invited himself to sample our food (which we declined), he kept trying to hit on us, and stood over us until we ordered. In addition, there were 4 gentlemen just standing around the bar looking around the whole time. It was annoying. I am Italian and have been to many great Italian restaurants, but this is not one of them. It has great potential, great decor and great food but lacks in customer service. I really wanted to be able to say my visit was perfect but....well, it wasn't. My mom wanted to treat me to a dinner out since I got a job, so it was me and my parents. We were seated promptly at the crowded restaurant, at about 7. The atmosphere was gorgeous and intimate. The noise was unholy, I had to practically yell to be heard above all the other patrons talking. Half the tables were filled, but we got wine (a delicious Chianti) and our orders taken immediately. The menu was good, very Italian (aka. darn near impossible to get some without gratuitous use of tomatoes, oil or cheese) The prices were 6-25 for appetizers and about 15-30 bucks alone for a main course. The waitress seemed distant and hurried. She didn't really introduce herself, just quickly got our orders taken. It was kinda off putting, but understandable. We had a little bread basket for free...Thin slices of bread that was obviously not fresh, but still soft. (Cobb’s has spoiled me it seems) Along with the bread, we had this tiny little dish of oil and balsamic vinegar. We were not sure how were supposed to share it (double dipping is supposed to be bad thing, isn't it?) Thankfully it didn't take long for our soups to show up. Mom had the special, which was a corn chowder. The corn chowder was brilliant. It was strongly flavored with pancetta, creamy, and full of flavor. I got a potato soup with what I assume was pesto oil and some greens. It was decent.....subtly flavored, a bit too thick , and the additions were a nuisance. The waitress quickly asked us how our soups were, we said it was good. Our entrees was were the trouble started.....We waited about 20-40 minutes, though it felt much longer. Nearly all the seats were filled. Poor dad had eaten next to nothing, and it was over an hour past when he's used to eating. Our veal chops, penne bologesne, and polenta primavera showed eventually. I wanted dessert (my favorite part of the menu was the dessert options), so I got a menu to mull over while eating my entree, but it was snatched up by a waitress and given to another table while I was distracted. Wtf? Dad had ordered medium rare, but it was rare at most. Like my polenta dish, Dad's meal was plied on and mixed together. He couldn't cut his chops without squishing the vegetables and getting mashed potato on everything. My polenta was delicious (had this great melt-in-your mouth consistency), but it was overpowered by the tomato sauce and the huge serving looked sloppy. I have a small stomach, so I was full by time I was half way done. Mom was the most upset though....She claimed she could taste cheese in her meal, even though she asked if there was cheese in it while ordering. A check with the waitress, the kitchen, and the manager insisting (not really confrontational, but pushy) that there was no cheese was not enough for my mom. The service was polite, considerate, and thorough....but mom didn't want to risk it. We skipped dessert (I was kinda pissed b/c they looked amazing at other tables) and asked for a bill and a doggy bad for my polenta. That took us a while too. It was hard to get the waitstaff's attention, since they were so busy. As we left no on really noticed, but that's fine. It would be kind of pretentious of me to think that the waitstaff would have to say goodbye on a night were there are roughly 30 people to serve. *hint hint to other reviewers* Overall, it started out great, until the long wait for huge and sloppy entrees began. The staff reacted pretty well to mom's allergy scare, but was obviously distracted most of the time. The menu was great and the atmosphere was lovely. If I could go another time, I'd skip the entrees and just enjoy a few hearty appetizers. Then stuff my face with desserts. All while drinking red wine until I forget what my name is. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and took a chance trying this restaurant for the first time. We were pleasantly suprised and absoloutely loved the experience. We ordered the Peppercorn Shrimp appetizer and the Roesti with Smolked Salmon. Delicious and plenty to share. We then ordered the Shrimp Pasta and the Hunter Schnitzel. The food is really outstanding!! best schnitzel I've ever had!! Super value. The service was extremely professional and very attentive and pleasant. At the end we ordered the Creme Brule and what an excellent finishing touch to a great meal. The ambiance in the restaurant is very inviting and romantic. Alot of selection on the menu but what sparked our interest was the lamb chop special. We asked to substitue the mashed potatoes for homemade ricotta gnocchi - lovely and flavorful- upgrade charges applied. Service was fine - nothing omitted. wine portions were a little small for value but everything else made up for that. I had an opportunity to make a return visit to this relatively new and purpose-built Keg recently for a family reunion. I’ve always liked this location's dining room. It is boldly elegant with the sort of wood tones one expects in a steakhouse but without them being overtly masculine. Several fireplaces add points of visual attraction.    The dining room was already completely full of local meat lovers at six so we accepted corner tables in the lounge that proved to be a fairly comfortable location sufficiently apart from others to afford privacy.    I enjoy quaffing a crisp ale with my meals, but discovered The Keg now only offers mediocre Molson products so we deferred to the wine list for a couple of decent Shiraz to share. I recall in its early days out west this chain was a staunch promoter of local and particularly well crafted beers. Like most chains, the bean counters eventually got control and quality suffers. People with a sound knowledge of food and beverages need to lead these companies and ignore the rebate-bait the major breweries offer for exclusivity. All our food was quite acceptable, but pricey. Most of us started with the Escargot ($9) that seemed less garlicky than previous renderings. My massive $42 Rib Steak came precisely as ordered, perfectly medium rare with an aggressive salty char outside and moist redness inside. Other than the dominant salt and pepper flavors, there wasn't much of the distinctive well-aged beefiness a 28-day aged steak should bring to the table at that price point. It was a lean cut without visible marbling that might have been the reason for its muted flavour. It was accompanied on the plate by asparagus spears, grilled red pepper, and sautéed mushrooms that lurked under the flared salad bowl containing my economical portion of Caesar Salad. That standard presentation of a salad bowl on the plate needs to be re-thought as it makes combat with the steak a more challenging event than necessary. We also discovered the lounge’s tables don’t quite accommodate full meal service. Throughout our meal the cheerful staff serving us was self assured and professional, a sign of good training that lamentably has become increasingly rare in chain restaurants. But the three young women at the host stand who were apparently hired because each owned a revealing black dress saw no advantage to thanking customers as they were leaving. Read more

I was wary to visit this place from the previous reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised! They've done renovations as well as changed their menu. It has been for the better! Our server, George, although new to the restaurant (starting one week prior) was very knowledgeable. I ask as many questions as possible, and I'm glad he could answer most, others he would go to the kitchen to ask any he did not know. One important question was where they source their beef, I was told it is all Ontario beef which pleased me. The Beef Carpaccio was nice, as well as the Beef Wellington. Not the most traditional way to create the dish, but it was still tasty. The pork was nice, although the apple-bacon compote may have been a bit over-the-top on bacon. The Lamb chop was crusted nicely and was done VERY evenly. The dessert was something else. Homemade marshmallows, homemade graham cookies, caramel sauce, and milk chocolate sauce. The marshmallows were on sticks and you have your own campfire that comes along with it. Very novel, very exciting, and the smell of the fire was very close to a campfire. All in all, a good visit. I came to this restaurant for my father's birthday and the food was incredible. It is an authetic portuguese restaurant on James street in Hamilton. For an appetizer we had the Bruchetta, which is baked pizza style bread topped with tomato, onion and garlic. Yumm! For the dish I ate the Filete com arroz, which is fish filete with seafood rice. The dish cost $17 but was really cheap considering the amount of food that was provided. I will definetely return to this restaurant and recommend anyone to try this place. They have a large menu with many options. If you havent tried portuguese food or just love the food, you wont be disappointed at the Wild Orchid. Read more

The Watermark is a welcome addition to a kind of tired Waterdown restaurant scene. Small town full of pubs selling the same old stuff. First thing you notice is the booths. Like small caves! pretty cool. four of us sat in a booth that was roomy and private. The servers were friendly and we we seated pretty quickly. I had heard that the Watermark was a little pricey so I was surprised to find that the food was priced very reasonably. We shared a few apps. California Fusion Nachos, Sweet Heat Scallops and an order of South West Shrimp Flatbread. The Nachos are not your regular pile of chips with stuff on top. These were individual portions topped with some chicken, pinapple, and other stuff that tasted great. I always order the chefs special because I like to see what a chef can bring to the table (pun intended). The grilled salmon was awesome. charred perfectly and an amazing avocado salsa on top. My wife had the Sonoma Chicken and loved the flavors. I think that is what you notice the most about the Watermark. Some creative flavor combinations that are pretty cool and they work. This is one of my favourite restaurants. I first was taken here by my father after he had been so impressed eating here at a business lunch. We haven't had a bad meal here ever. My favourite meal is always the eggplant parmesan. It has to be prepared ahead of time, so make to to mention when you make your reservation, if you want it. Food quality is always amazing. The owner is attentive, enthusiastic, and passionate about the food and service. The owner may be Greek, but coming from an Italian girl who grow up on my Italian Nana's fresh made food, he knows his Italian food. Read more
